The influence of vascular and lifestyle risk factors in African Americans vs. Caucasians Lead Investigator: Whitney Wharton Institution : Emory E-Mail : w.wharton@emory.edu Proposal ID : 740 Proposal Description: There is evidence that odd ratios associated with certain vascular and lifestyle risk factors vary as a function of race. So the idea would be to look at whether the risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, smoking, obesity etc. carry the same weights in African Americans vs. Caucasians for predicting the rate of cognitive decline or transition to dementia. We are looking at both transition from normal to MCI and MCI to AD. We will also create a model predicting the decrease in AD risk by race of we were to treat individual and cumulative risk factors.
